Guido Folonari, heir to an historical Italian wine family and driven by determination and the will to accomplish a significant enological project in Italy, decided in 2001 to begin a new entrepreneurial journey into the world of wine. His nature, a result of growing up in Brescia, and his distinguishing world vision, have enabled him to discover and invest in a short time into unique territories of great potential. He acquired in 2002 Tenuta L’Illuminata, in the Langhe area, on the beautiful hills of La Morra. The next move followed up in Tuscany, a region he greatly loves.

Here, his family had been producing wine since the ninetieth century. A simple handshake signed Donna Olimpia 1898’s transfer of ownership: 148 acres in Bolgheri. Donna Olimpia 1898 bears the name of Olimpia Alliata, Princess of Biserno and spouse of Gherardo della Gherardesca, to commemorate in 1898 their 25th wedding anniversary.  With an area of approximately 148 acres, all located in the Bolgheri DOC denomination, the estates covers a strip of land that runs from Km 167.8 of the Aurelia road towards the inside for approximately 1.2 km. 111acres are cultivated with vineyards and some small plots are arable land.

A The terrain, unique in the world, gives great strength and potential to the vines of Bolgheri. These are mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, Petit Verdot and the local Vermentino. The flagship wine is the Millepassi, a classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The estate features a modern winery of 5000 square meters, designed in a perspective of energy saving and minimal environmental impact. The cellar is equipped with the best available manufacturing technology (automatic pumping over and temperature control, cold pre-maceration).

The wine refinement takes place in French oak barrels. A few steps away from the sea and the charming old village of Bolgheri, surrounded by rows of vines and framed by golden sunsets, Tenuta Donna Olimpia 1898 offers relaxing holidays immersed in nature. The estate proposes guided tours for wine enthusiast, tastings and great food in a stunning scenery.
