Giovanni Carlo Sacchet and Antonio Mario Zaccheo founded their firm, which has become an important force in Tuscan wine, in 1967, and in close to fifty years of intelligent, professional work have built it into a house with the capability of producing both quantity and quality, the most difficult balancing act of all in the world of wine. But the over 475 acres of vineyards are more than sufficient for the partners’ requirements and the work itself is extremely well organized, with Sacchet in charge of production and Zaccheo supervising sales and marketing.
The full range of the region’s wines are offered and, numerically, pride of place goes to Dogajolo, a well crafted blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet, by now a regional classic, with its 600,000 bottles. Giovanni Carlo Sacchet, originally from the northern part of the Veneto, is something of an expert in the field of Cabernet, and it is no surprise that his selection of the finest lots, Farnito, numbers another 150 thousand bottles.
Tuscany means Sangiovese, however, and Carpineto is fully committed to the variety, which it grows and transforms into wine into various parts of the region: in the Maremma, in Chianti Classico, and in a sizeable property which sprawls over the boundary line of two different townships, Chianciano Terme and Montepulciano. In the latter spot, the best part of the production – and not a small part either, 150 thousand bottles as well – is utilized for the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva, well fermented and given a lengthy aging before its release, normally among the last to appear of the entire appellation. A distinguished bottle, it is well worth waiting for.
